Svolværgeita

Svolværgeita, “the Goat”, towers over Svolvær, the capital of Lofoten. It’s on every Norwegian climber’s list, and time and again our guests tell us it was the highlight of their trip. If you’re reasonably fit, you can climb it with us.

The approach is a steep 45-minute hike on a good path. The climbing itself is a real challenge: two pitches up the back of the Goat, with your guide coaching you through the tricky moves. From the summit we abseil to the ground and walk back down. It’s a thrilling day out, and a natural first step into Lofoten’s bigger climbs.

Your guide will meet you at our office at Tore Hjorts gate 17 to hand out equipment and talk through the day. Once everything is packed, we drive to the parking.

The approach: a 45-minute hike up stairs and a steep trail to the start of the climb.

The climbing: two pitches to the top. Your guide climbs each pitch first, then belays you up from above. Once you’ve reached the top of the horn and taken your photos, your guide lowers you all the way to the ground.

The descent: we hike down the way we came. If you’d like to continue up to Djeveltanna, let your guide know before the start.
